As the anima infused them more deeply, the trees of Ashenfall sought ways to create stronger defences against their hated foes – the lumberjacks. Yew trees, hardened after surviving the cruel rays of the sun, developed bark that would shatter lesser axes. They felt invulnerable. Unbeatable. They could take the time to plan their war against the logging axes, so that they might rise up and strangle the world with their roots. Yet, the lumberjacks had a friend in the earth, and adamantite rose up to aid its allies. The metal was harder than any before it, and the yew trees didn’t stand a chance, falling to the new weapons in droves.
