Zombie Axe

The zombie axe is a power level 5 one-handed melee weapon that can be crafted at a blacksmith's bench. The axe and its recipe are received by completing Doric's Quest. It can be ascended at the mystic forge using ascension cores.

Its special effect is that it deals both crush and slash damage simultaneously. Both damage types are taken into account when considering monsters' weaknesses and resistances. This weapon is effective against enemies that are weak to crush but not resistant to slash (including vault guardians, putrid rats, garou thanes, skeletal marauders, and skeletal necromancers). However, against enemies that are weak to crush but resistant to slash damage (including skeletal hoplites, zogres, black knight guardians, black knight warriors, and the black knight titan), this weapon will deal slightly less damage to them because resistances lower damage (-33%) more than weaknesses increase it (+25%). Note that this damage is additive rather than multiplicative, unlike other damage modifiers (i.e. it will lower damage by a factor of 0.92 rather than 0.8375).

This weapon has a higher base damage than other similar one-handed crush weapons, but that benefit is lost against enemies that are also resistant to slash, making Skullsplitter with its +15% critical strike chance more valuable. This weapon also uses the mace moveset, which hits slower than the sword, scimitar, or whip move set, therefore against enemies that are weak to slash but not resistant to crush (including abyssal demons, lost souls, zombies, Zamorakian acolytes, and mages of zamorak), weapons like the black sword, Imaru's talon, or abyssal whip may be better choices.

The following text is transcribed from the Journal.

Captain Artorius Flamhanger was a brave man, who stood against the rampaging forces of the damned even as his defences crumbles around him. He never wavered, never faltered, and never left a man behind. In a better world, there would be songs about him. But Fellhollow scorns legacy, leaving only ruins and despair where hope might take root. He held the line against the encroaching horde far longer than anywhere else in the region. Days turned into months and months grew into years. As the rest of the region vanished into death, despair and rot, Captain Flamhanger stood strong. As his children died and rose again, the captain returned them to the earth with sombre compassion. when his wife joined them in death, he gave her a final kiss of polished silver that cleaved her head from her shoulder. In a better world he might have held back the darkness, stood as a single ray of light in a world of shadow. But this is not our world. There are no sages of this man, no great texts telling of his heroic deeds. The only sound he made in the time after his death, is the bubbling song of digestive acids within a zogre's belly. History is penned by the survivors and the victors, yet the deeds of the dead echo across time. This axe, simple as it may appear, is infused with vengeance against the dead that had taken so much from a good man.
