The mystic forge is a crafting station that allows for the creation of staves, other weapons, and more powerful capes, and uses ascension cores in ascending masterwork weapons and vestige armour. This replaces some of the functionality of the smithing anvil and crafting table.
The mystic forge is unlocked upon obtaining a bronze bar in the player's inventory.

Ascension Upgrades
Players can ascend their masterwork weapons and armour by collecting ascension cores through defeating enemies that drop ascension shards and creating them in the mystic forge or the cores directly through the Nightmare Crucibles. In order to start ascending weapons and armour, players will need at least 1 ascension core of the next power level available in either their inventory or chest along with a suitable item to ascend. This item must first be placed within the slot to ascend (it still stays in the inventory).
Ascending a masterwork weapon or armour piece consumes the core to bring it to the highest power level available to the player (<4 to 4, 4 to 5, 5 to 6, etc) and, if the player has multiple cores to reach the current highest power level in the game, the weapon or armour piece will require ascending twice to consume the cores needed to ascend to the highest power level in the game. It is worth noting here that weapons and armour that are already the highest power level cannot be ascended until a new major update.
