Leveling Guide: Complete Gearing & Progression | AION 2

article

01Leveling and Gear Progression Overview

This AION 2 leveling guide is a complete gearing and progression roadmap from early game through late-game content. Efficient gearing requires more than following the main story — clearing side content is mandatory for permanent passive stats that significantly increase combat effectiveness.

It is strategically sound to prioritize main quests to unlock daily content, but you must eventually return and complete all side objectives. The sections below cover the mandatory activities and the permanent rewards they provide.

Push the main story to unlock systems, then sweep every Sealed Dungeon, Stronghold, and Regional Quest for permanent Gear Score.

New to the game? Start with the AION 2 Beginners Guide. For upgrade mechanics, see the Gear Enhancing Guide.

02Unique Gear Progression: Amulets and Belts

Unlike standard armor and weapons, AION 2 features unique Amulet and Belt slots. These items are acquired early and are never replaced. Instead, you upgrade them continuously to reach their maximum potential.

Feathers and the Verteron Monolith

As you explore the world, you collect Feathers. Deliver a mandatory amount to the Verteron Monolith — it unlocks around level 17 via the main story.

  • Upgrading: The Monolith progresses to level 30. Leveling it rewards Amulet Enhancing Scrolls needed to upgrade your unique Amulet. Enhance the Amulet to +10, then upgrade its grade, and repeat.
  • Substance Morph: Once the Monolith reaches level 30, excess feathers can be exchanged at the Substance Morph vendor for Enhance Stones — the core material for upgrading gear.

Substance Morph also appears in gathering and crafting loops — see the Gathering Guide and the Gear Enhancing Guide.

Strongholds

Strongholds are simple instances that must be cleared to obtain the materials required to upgrade your unique Belt. Like the Amulet, the Belt follows a strict enhance-to-+10, then upgrade-grade progression path.

Use your map's exploration filter to locate all Strongholds. Clear every one you find — belt materials are a permanent progression gate.

03Permanent Power: Passive Trees and Deva Points

Increasing raw stats and Gear Score is vital. AION 2 uses a passive skill tree and a Deva Point system to provide permanent character bonuses on top of temporary gear upgrades.

For the related board-based progression system, see the Daevanion Boards Guide.

Sealed Dungeons

Sealed Dungeons are straightforward, low-difficulty instances. Clear every Sealed Dungeon you encounter — they reward the currency needed to unlock nodes in the passive skill tree.

  • There are hundreds of passives, but you eventually earn enough points to unlock nearly all of them.
  • Each unlocked passive grants +1 Gear Score, resulting in a massive cumulative boost to Item Level.

Regional Quests (Side Quests)

Regional Quests are the game's primary side missions. Completing them awards Deva Points, with each point granting +1 Gear Score. Clear every Regional Quest available on the map to maximize permanent stat gain.

04Rune Systems and Level 45 Content

As you approach mid-game, new power systems become available. Prioritize first-time clear rewards and careful Rune investment over inefficient repeated grinding.

Expedition Dungeons

Expedition Dungeons are simple, low-level group instances. They are worth running once for excellent first-time clear rewards, but they are not efficient for repeated grinding due to rapid leveling.

Runes

Upon reaching level 45, you unlock two Rune slots (you may discover them as early as level 30). Runes provide a significant boost to Item Level.

  • Acquisition: Regional Quests provide Class Runes.
  • Upgrading strategy: Runes have a chance to break upon failed enhancement. Early on, upgrade your Runes only once and stop. Do not risk breaking them until you have spare runes for replacement.
Unlike standard gear enhancement, failed Rune upgrades can destroy the rune. Treat early runes as scarce until you have duplicates.

05Enemy Territory and PvPvE Progression

To further advance your character, you must access enemy territory. Rifts appear every three hours, allowing you to invade the opposing faction's zones.

  • Enemy territory has additional Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds. Clearing these is mandatory for maximizing Deva Points and passive abilities.
  • Abyss Points: Clearing Sealed Dungeons in enemy territory also rewards Abyss Points, used to purchase PvP gear from dedicated vendors.

06The Daily Grind: Consistent Gear Progression

Once you are ready for higher-level content, your daily routine becomes crucial for obtaining upgrade materials and Abyss Points. Open your journal and navigate to the Duty tab to manage daily tasks.

ActivityWhat you getNotes
Daily MissionsQuest rewards, materialsSpecific dailies listed in the Duty tab
Daily DungeonsEnhancing StonesSingle-player queues; core stone source
Supply RequestsDelivery rewardsDaily and weekly; includes a crafting category
Command ScrollsAbyss PointsFaction area or Abyss; Abyss Commands are contested PvP

Command Scrolls are purchased from an NPC and start small missions. They reward Abyss Points for both your faction's area and the Abyss. Abyss Commands take place in contested PvP zones and carry higher risk.

Completing these activities daily consistently increases Item Level, letting you tackle higher-difficulty dungeons and stay competitive in both PvE and PvP.

07Progression Checklist

  1. Prioritize the main story until daily content unlocks, then return for side objectives.
  2. Feed Feathers to the Verteron Monolith; enhance the Amulet to +10, upgrade grade, and repeat.
  3. Clear every Stronghold for Belt upgrade materials.
  4. Clear every Sealed Dungeon and Regional Quest for passives and Deva Points.
  5. At level 45, equip Runes; enhance only +1 early until you have spares.
  6. Use Rifts to clear enemy-territory Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds for Abyss Points.
  7. Run Duty dailies, Daily Dungeons, Supply Requests, and Command Scrolls every day.

08Leveling and Gearing FAQ

Should I only follow the main story while leveling in AION 2?

No. Main quests unlock systems quickly, but Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, and Regional Quests provide permanent Gear Score. Plan to clear them before late-game content.

Do Amulets and Belts get replaced like normal gear?

No. Unique Amulet and Belt slots are acquired early and upgraded continuously. Follow the enhance-to-+10, then upgrade-grade path for both.

What do Sealed Dungeons and Deva Points give you?

Sealed Dungeons fund the passive skill tree. Regional Quests grant Deva Points. Each unlocked passive and each Deva Point adds +1 Gear Score.

When should I enhance Runes?

Unlock Rune slots by level 45 (sometimes earlier). Early on, enhance once and stop — failed upgrades can break Runes until you have spares.

How do I earn Abyss Points while leveling?

Enter enemy territory through Rifts, clear Sealed Dungeons there, and run Command Scrolls from the Duty tab. Abyss Commands are higher risk because they are contested PvP.
