AION 2 Gear Enhancing Guide: How to Upgrade Equipment

article

What Is Gear Enhancement in AION 2?

Gear enhancement increases an equipment item's enhancement level and strengthens your character's overall progression. The basic process uses Enhancement Stones and Kina, while some slots require additional materials.

AION 2's system is more forgiving than many older MMORPG enhancement systems. A failed attempt does not destroy the equipment, but repeated attempts above the guaranteed milestone can still consume a large amount of resources.

Upgrade enough to progress, invest heavily only in gear you intend to keep, and check the full upgrade path before spending rare materials.
Exact enhancement costs, maximum levels and regional availability can change. The guaranteed milestones and Inheritance rules described here are based primarily on current Korean/Taiwanese service documentation and should be checked against the live Global client.

How Enhancement Works

  1. Select the equipment item you want to improve.
  2. Review the required Enhancement Stones, Kina and slot-specific materials.
  3. Attempt the next enhancement level.
  4. Check the new enhancement level and the item's contribution to your progression.

Enhancement StonesPrimary material for increasing enhancement level
KinaCurrency cost for each attempt

Enhancement Levels, +10 and Failed Attempts

Enhancement follows the familiar progression +1, +2, +3 and so on. Current live-version documentation for the Korean/Taiwanese service confirms that upgrades through +10 are guaranteed, making +10 an important beginner milestone.

  • Up to +10: guaranteed in the current KR/TW reference version.
  • Above +10: attempts can fail and consume the required materials.
  • After failure: the equipment is not destroyed or downgraded, and the next attempt receives an improved chance according to current documentation.
The main risk after +10 is resource consumption, not losing the item. Do not confuse AION 2's system with the harsher enhancement rules from the original AION.

Enhancement Stones, Kina and Gear Investment

Enhancement Stones are used throughout character progression and become more valuable as attempts become more expensive. Kina is equally important because every attempt also consumes currency, and failed high-level attempts can quickly drain your reserve.

Do not enhance every new item automatically. Estimate how long you will use the equipment and whether the item can be inherited or transferred later.

  • Temporary gear: keep enhancement low and solve only the immediate progression problem.
  • Long-term gear: stronger investment is reasonable when the item has good stats and a clear upgrade path.

Which Gear Should You Enhance First?

The correct order depends on your class, role and content, but the weapon is usually the most efficient first priority for damage-focused characters. A practical general order is weapon, Amulet, Belt, important armor or accessories, then temporary lower-impact pieces.

RoleTypical priority
DPSWeapon, offensive gear, long-term accessories, Amulet, Belt, remaining armor
TankWeapon, defensive gear, Amulet, Belt, accessories and armor
HealerHealing or support stats, survivability, Amulet and Belt
A higher enhancement level does not automatically make an item better. Compare equipment tier, base stats, stat rolls, Potential, Soul Binding, Arcana and future Inheritance options.

Weapon, Armor and Accessory Enhancement

Weapons directly improve offensive performance, speed up kills and can help meet progression requirements. This is why they are often the first priority for DPS characters, but pushing a temporary weapon far beyond +10 is wasteful if a replacement is close.

Armor matters more as content becomes difficult. Tanks generally prioritize defensive gear, while healers need enough survivability to continue supporting the party. DPS characters can favor offense, but a dead DPS deals no damage.

Accessories and special slots should be planned together with the current gear tier. The Amulet and Belt can use dedicated enhancement scrolls, and later seasons have added additional Arcana parts and set effects.

What Happens When You Dismantle Enhanced Gear?

Current documentation indicates that dismantling enhanced equipment returns the Enhancement Stones invested into the item. This makes Stones comparatively reusable when you replace gear.

  • Generally returned: Enhancement Stones.
  • Not fully returned: Kina, Manastones and Theostones.
Dismantling lowers the long-term risk of using Enhancement Stones, but enhancement is not free because Kina and other investments can still be lost.

Gear Inheritance and Advanced Inheritance

Inheritance transfers investment from older equipment to a newer piece. Instead of treating every replacement as starting from zero, you can use the old item as part of the next upgrade path.

The current Korean/Taiwanese Chapter 1 version made ordinary Inheritance 100% successful and removed the previous transfer limit. Advanced Inheritance has a documented maximum cost of 50,000,000 Kina in that version.

SystemWhat it does
EnhancementRaises the level of the selected item; high-level attempts can fail
InheritanceTransfers investment from old equipment to new equipment
Advanced InheritanceComplex higher-tier transfer with a current regional cost cap
Inheritance is not the same as Enhancement. Enhancement attempts can fail, while the current regional Inheritance system is guaranteed. Verify Global rules before relying on exact success rates or costs.

Inheritance, Crafted Gear and Endgame Progression

Inheritance becomes especially valuable when moving into higher-tier equipment. Season updates have introduced new Arcana parts, Gear Potential and Dragon Lord equipment, so an enhanced item can remain useful as a progression asset after a stronger tier is released.

The Genesis and Nemesis Dragon Lord sets introduced in 2026 are an example of interconnected progression: high-end equipment can use existing Dragon Lord gear as Transfer Crafting material rather than forcing players to discard every previous investment.

Gear Enhancement and Item Level

Enhancement contributes to the wider gear progression loop. AION 2 uses minimum item-level requirements for harder activities, so improving equipment can unlock new content.

Get Gear → Enhance Gear → Increase Item Level → Unlock Harder Content → Get Better Gear → Enhance Again

Do not treat enhancement as the entire gear system. Manastones, Theostones, Soul Binding, Potential, Arcana, Transfer Crafting and PvE or PvP equipment can all affect the final value of an item.

PvE and PvP Enhancement Priorities

For PvE, prioritize the weapon and the long-term equipment that supports your role. DPS characters usually gain immediate value from offensive gear, tanks need reliable defensive progression, and healers should balance support stats with survivability.

For PvP, consider PvP-specific equipment, PvP Damage, PvP Damage Tolerance, defensive thresholds, Abyss progression and the equipment tier you plan to keep. Do not spend your entire reserve on PvE gear if competitive PvP is your primary goal.

How to Farm Enhancement Materials

The best source of Enhancement Stones changes with your level and the current patch. Build your routine around activities that provide several useful rewards at once instead of farming only one material.

  • Dungeons and Expeditions
  • Strongholds, quests and progression missions
  • Events and daily or weekly activities
  • New-player support missions and progression packages

Remember that you also need Kina, Manastones, Theostones, Stigma resources, Daevanion materials, Potential materials and crafting resources. A good daily routine should advance several progression systems together.

AION 2 Gear Enhancement Checklist

  1. Is this item temporary or part of my long-term set?
  2. What equipment upgrade will replace it next?
  3. Can the investment be inherited or transferred?
  4. Do I have enough Kina for future attempts and other progression?
  5. Does the item have good stats, tier, Potential and a useful future path?
  6. What content or item-level requirement am I trying to unlock?

Gear Enhancement Strategy for New Players

  1. Leveling: replace equipment naturally through quests and dungeons; enhance only when necessary.
  2. Preparing for endgame: stabilize your set and take important pieces toward the guaranteed milestone.
  3. First endgame set: invest more heavily in equipment you expect to keep.
  4. Higher tiers: learn Inheritance before replacing highly enhanced gear.
  5. Optimization: combine Enhancement, stats, Manastones, Theostones, Potential, Soul Binding and Arcana.

Common Gear Enhancement Mistakes

  • Enhancing every new item before deciding whether it is temporary.
  • Treating +10 as the final goal instead of a guaranteed milestone.
  • Spending all your Kina on repeated high-level attempts.
  • Ignoring Inheritance before replacing heavily enhanced gear.
  • Ignoring the Amulet and Belt because they follow different progression rules.
  • Judging an item only by its enhancement level instead of its stats, tier and future path.
  • Following old guides without checking their patch date or region.

AION 2 Gear Enhancement FAQ

Is gear enhancement guaranteed in AION 2?

Current Korean/Taiwanese documentation confirms guaranteed enhancement through +10. Higher levels can fail.

Can enhancement destroy my gear?

No. A failed enhancement leaves the equipment intact and does not reduce its current enhancement level according to current documentation.

What happens when enhancement fails?

The attempt materials are consumed, the item remains intact, and the next attempt receives an improved chance in the current reference version.

What materials do I need?

The main resources are Enhancement Stones and Kina. The Amulet and Belt can also require their corresponding enhancement scrolls.

Should I enhance my weapon first?

For many DPS characters, yes. A weapon is often the most efficient early priority, but compare its tier, stats and replacement timeline first.

Should I enhance temporary gear?

Only enough to solve your current progression problem. Avoid expensive investment in equipment you will replace soon.

Can I recover Enhancement Stones?

Current documentation indicates that dismantling enhanced equipment returns the invested Enhancement Stones. Kina and other gear investments are not fully refunded.

Can I transfer enhancement to another item?

Yes. Inheritance or Transfer can move progression from older equipment to newer gear. The current regional Chapter 1 version makes ordinary Inheritance 100% successful, but Global rules may differ.

Is Inheritance free?

No. Inheritance can require additional resources, and Advanced Inheritance has a significant Kina cost.

Is enhancement the only way to improve gear?

No. Manastones, Theostones, Potential, Soul Binding, Arcana, Transfer Crafting and higher-tier equipment also affect gear power.

Final Thoughts

Gear enhancement in AION 2 is not about pressing Enhance as many times as possible. It is about knowing when an item deserves investment.

  • Enhance long-term gear, not every temporary drop.
  • Use +10 as an important guaranteed milestone in the current reference version.
  • Keep enough Kina for future progression.
  • Learn Inheritance before replacing heavily enhanced equipment.
  • Do not judge equipment only by enhancement level.
