Gladiator PvE Guide

article

GladiatorOverview

The Gladiator is a frontline melee class built around high physical damage, wide-area attacks, and strong survivability. Unlike pure glass-cannon DPS, Gladiators can stay in melee range for long periods while dealing damage.

For PvE, the class performs best when skill chains, cooldowns, and Daevanion bonuses focus on core damage abilities — not an even spread across the whole tree.

This guide covers a PvE DPS Gladiator with separate notes for single-target bosses and AoE dungeon content. Full skill data: Gladiator.

Core kit includes Rending Blow, Keen Strike, Crushing Wave, Blade Toss, Ruinous Blow, Overhead Slam, Leaping Slam, Ankle Slice, Wrath Wave, Focused Block, Armor of Balance, and several Stigma abilities.

Weapon Choice

Greatsword is the default weapon for a dedicated PvE Gladiator. It combines high physical damage, strong melee burst, good AoE, consistent boss damage, and synergy with the class kit.

Use Greatsword for dungeons, bosses, raids, solo PvE, and general farming.

A Polearm can still work for niche or alternative builds, but it should not be the default PvE DPS recommendation unless balance specifically favors it.

Active Skill Priority

Invest heavily in core damage skills first. Details below.

Rending BlowRending Blow

Priority: MAX

Rending Blow is one of the most important skills in the Gladiator PvE damage cycle. For single-target PvE, take the Specialization that improves damage against a small number of targets when available.

Use it as a primary boss attack — not as low-priority filler just because the class has flashier burst skills.

Overhead SlamOverhead Slam

Priority: MAX

Overhead Slam is another central damage skill. Prefer the Specialization that improves reliable damage over PvP-oriented control.

Especially strong during vulnerable or staggered states.

  • During damage windows
  • After setup skills
  • During stagger / CC windows
  • Whenever its strongest PvE modifier is active

Crushing WaveCrushing Wave

Priority: MAX

Crushing Wave is critical for both AoE and sustained PvE. It shines when enemies are grouped.

  • Bosses: favor reliable single-target damage or better DPS-cycle interaction
  • Dungeons: take the AoE-oriented option when available

Ruinous BlowRuinous Blow

Priority: HIGH

Ruinous Blow is a heavy attack with strong PvE relevance (including PvE Damage Boost in current skill data). Recent 2026 balance changes make it especially important versus older guides.

Use during boss damage windows, stagger windows, major offensive buffs, and high-damage rotation cycles. Do not dump every major skill the moment it comes off cooldown if that misses a stronger vulnerability window.

Sword Aura RampageSword Aura Rampage

Priority: HIGH

Sword Aura Rampage is a strong secondary damage skill for multi-target PvE, long boss fights, and gaps while main skills are on cooldown. Use it in the sustained cycle — do not save every cast for a perfect imaginary moment.

Keen StrikeKeen Strike

Priority: HIGH

Keen Strike supports sustained damage. Upgrade after the highest-priority core attacks; use it to keep pressure while stronger skills are unavailable.

Leaping SlamLeaping Slam

Priority: MEDIUM

Leaping Slam is mainly mobility and engagement: close distance, return to a boss, enter melee, and keep uptime after movement mechanics. Do not over-invest at the expense of core damage.

Ankle SliceAnkle Slice

Priority: MEDIUM

Ankle Slice provides utility and combo setup. Value is encounter-dependent; for stationary boss DPS it ranks below Rending Blow, Overhead Slam, and Crushing Wave.

Mocking BladeMocking Blade

Priority: LOW (pure DPS)

Mocking Blade has strong utility and control, but lower PvE DPS priority. Keep it for encounters where control, positioning, or specific mechanics matter.

Recommended Skill Investment Order

For a fresh PvE Gladiator:

  1. Rending Blow Rending Blow
  2. Overhead Slam Overhead Slam
  3. Crushing Wave Crushing Wave
  4. Ruinous Blow Ruinous Blow
  5. Keen Strike Keen Strike
  6. Sword Aura Rampage Sword Aura Rampage
  7. Leaping Slam Leaping Slam
  8. Ankle Slice Ankle Slice
  9. Mocking Blade Mocking Blade
  10. Situational / utility skills
Do not spread points equally. Make core damage abilities significantly stronger before heavy secondary investment.

Passive Skills

The passive tree should reinforce physical damage, Critical Hit, damage amplification, skill damage, attack-related stats, and sustain where needed.

Stigma Build

Stigma selection is one of the most important parts of the Gladiator PvE setup. A common direction: offensive stance, group utility, and sustain.

Assault StanceAssault Stance

High priority — one of the main offensive Stigmas for maximum sustained PvE damage.

Zikel's BlessingZikel's Blessing

High priority for group PvE — offensive utility for the party. In raids/dungeons, group contribution can beat six purely selfish DPS effects.

Lifestealing BladeLifestealing Blade

High priority — sustain in melee. Especially useful for solo farming, long bosses, dungeon pulls, and limited healer attention.

Rage BurstRage Burst

High priority offensive Stigma — enhance the main damage cycle; do not treat it as an isolated button.

Focused BlockFocused Block

Situational / defensive — not first pick for dummy DPS, but valuable when blocking, counters, or defensive timing matter.

Armor of BalanceArmor of Balance

Situational — extra defensive utility. For pure DPS testing, offensive Stigmas take priority.

Daevanion Board

Strengthen your core rotation before investing in secondary effects.

For a PvE DPS Gladiator, prioritize nodes that improve:

  1. Rending Blow
  2. Overhead Slam
  3. Crushing Wave
  4. Ruinous Blow
  5. Sword Aura Rampage
  6. Offensive stats
  7. Accuracy, if required
  8. Defensive / sustain bonuses

There is no single path to copy blindly. Route depends on Daevanion level, available nodes, skill levels, gear, Critical Hit, Accuracy, and single-target vs AoE goals.

  • Bossing: favor single-target damage modifiers
  • Dungeon farming: favor AoE and sustain modifiers

Stat Priority

Prioritize offensive stats first:

  1. Damage Amplification
  2. Weapon Damage Amplification
  3. Power
  4. Accuracy
  5. Critical-related stats
  6. Attack / Combat Speed
  7. Critical Damage

Order can shift with gear due to diminishing returns and skill-modifier interactions.

Accuracy: do not ignore it. Extra Critical Hit is worthless if attacks miss high-level PvE targets. Cap Accuracy for your content, then push damage.

Critical Hit

Critical Hit matters because several Gladiator mechanics reward crits — but do not place it above every other offensive stat by default.

Once you reach a strong critical threshold, additional Damage Amplification, Weapon Damage Amplification, Power, or Critical Damage can become more valuable. Prefer a calculator or DPS meter over a universal percentage.

Gear Progression

Early game — weapon damage, Power, Accuracy, damage amplification, critical stats. Do not delay a major weapon upgrade for a slightly better secondary-stat mix on an older item.

Mid game — skill levels, offensive stats, Daevanion modifiers, Stigma levels, set bonuses, accessories. Skill-level bonuses become very valuable.

Endgame — correct skill bonuses, high-quality weapon, offensive distribution, Daevanion, Stigma levels, Arcana/Pantheon synergy, encounter-specific builds. Item level alone is not enough.

Skill-Level Bonuses

When gear offers skill bonuses, prioritize:

  1. Rending Blow
  2. Overhead Slam
  3. Crushing Wave
  4. Ruinous Blow
  5. Sword Aura Rampage
  6. Keen Strike
Do not sacrifice large overall offensive stats for a tiny boost to a low-priority skill.

Single-Target Boss Rotation

Concept: engage → offensive buffs → core cycle. Exact order follows cooldowns and skill chains.

Basic example:

  1. Leaping Slam Leaping Slam
  2. Rending Blow Rending Blow
  3. Overhead Slam Overhead Slam
  4. Crushing Wave Crushing Wave
  5. Ruinous Blow Ruinous Blow
  6. Keen Strike Keen Strike
  7. Sword Aura Rampage Sword Aura Rampage
  8. Return to the core cycle
Maintain melee uptime. Seconds spent chasing a boss lose more DPS than a slightly imperfect theoretical rotation.

Stagger / Vulnerability Windows

Save strongest attacks for major vulnerability windows. Build setup → wait for the damage window → unload.

Prioritize during high-value windows:

Especially important on raid bosses — pressing every cooldown immediately is often suboptimal.

AoE / Dungeon Rotation

For packs, prioritize multi-target hits over pure single-target damage.

Example:

  1. Leaping Slam Leaping Slam
  2. Ankle Slice Ankle Slice
  3. Overhead Slam Overhead Slam
  4. Crushing Wave Crushing Wave
  5. Sword Aura Rampage Sword Aura Rampage
  6. Ruinous Blow Ruinous Blow
  7. Keen Strike Keen Strike
  8. Repeat the AoE cycle

Starter AoE combinations often revolve around Overhead Slam, Ankle Slice, Crushing Wave, and Ruinous Blow.

Solo PvE Build

Shift slightly toward sustain:

Killing 5% faster but recovering after every pull is usually worse farming efficiency. Solo ≠ raid build.

Group PvE / Raid Build

Personal DPS: Rending Blow, Overhead Slam, Crushing Wave, Ruinous Blow.

Group contribution: Zikel's Blessing, Lifestealing Blade, and relevant debuff/support effects.

Do not judge Gladiator only by training-dummy DPS. Group buffs plus strong personal damage often beat a fully selfish max-DPS setup.

Common Mistakes

  1. Leveling every skill equally — build core damage first.
  2. Copying old 2025 builds — 2026 balance (including Aug/Sep updates) can obsolete launch priorities.
  3. Ignoring Accuracy — misses destroy real DPS.
  4. Using every cooldown immediately — sync with vulnerability windows.
  5. Ignoring movement — learn the encounter first; optimize rotation second.

Beginner → Endgame Progression

Leveling: Rending BlowOverhead SlamCrushing Wave. Use Leaping Slam for mobility and AoE for packs.

Early endgame: Greatsword, Accuracy, Power, Damage Amplification, core skill levels, first major Stigma upgrades.

Mid endgame: Daevanion, skill bonuses, Arcana, Pantheon, critical optimization, Stigma specialization.

Endgame by content:

  • Raid: single-target + group utility
  • Dungeon: AoE + sustain
  • Solo farming: AoE + lifesteal
  • Hybrid: keep PvE core, add PvP utility as needed
