AION 2 Pets Guide: How to Get Pet Souls, Genus Insight & Global Changes
article01AION 2 Pets Guide Overview
Pets in AION 2 are not cosmetic companions. They are a core progression system that feeds permanent character power through Pet Souls, Soul Crystals, and Genus Insight.

This guide covers how to get pets, where to farm souls, how Genus Insight works, what changed for Global versus Korea, and a practical early-game DPS slot template.
Collect souls while you clear dailies, analyze Genus Insight on your main, and treat locked Heroic rolls as a long-term Kinah sink — not a day-one requirement.
02How to Get Pets in AION 2: The Soul System
Almost every monster type has a matching pet. To unlock it, collect Pet Souls of that type. Killing the matching monster gives a chance to drop its Pet Soul. As you gather more souls, your affinity with that pet increases.
Pet Level Caps: Korea vs Global
| Region | Pet level cap | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Korea | Level 5 | Longer grind to max a pet |
| Global | Level 3 | Shorter grind; Level 3 matches Korea Level 5 total bonuses |
Global pets cap at Level 3. Developers have stated that Global Level 3 provides the same total stat bonuses as Korean Level 5, so you reach full pet power with less soul farming.
03Where to Farm Pet Souls
Most players looking up how to get a specific pet in AION 2 will farm souls from one of three sources: overworld monsters, dungeon elites, or the Black Cloud Merchant.
Overworld Farming (Main Source)
You earn most souls passively while running daily missions, Command Scrolls, and overworld farming routes.
- Faction-locked monsters: Many monster types only appear in one faction’s territory. Use the Space-Time Rift to enter enemy land and finish your collection.
- PvE mode tip: When crossing rifts to farm souls, use PvE mode so you can clear enemy territory without forced PvP.
- Rift efficiency: Time on the other side is limited. Combine soul farming with dailies and stronghold clears in that zone.
- Launch congestion: Popular farms get crowded early — especially hard for melee classes. Spread routes or farm off-peak when possible.
Dungeon Elites
Some rare and powerful pets do not drop in the overworld. Their souls come from Elite monsters inside instanced dungeons and expeditions.
On expedition runs, clear mid-bosses before racing to the final boss if you care about rare soul drops.
Black Cloud Merchant Shop
If a soul is hard to find — especially from the opposing faction — check the Black Cloud Merchant. Inventory rotates hourly and sells pets and skins for Kinah, which is often the easiest way to fill collection gaps.
04Genus Insight: Passive Stats from Pet Collection
Collecting pets is only half the system. Genus Insight turns Soul Crystals into permanent passive stats for your character.

Every pet belongs to one of five Genera:
- Cogni
- Farah
- Natra
- Varian
- Special
Farming Pet Souls also yields Soul Crystals. Spend crystals to run an Analysis on a Genus and roll passive stats.
How Genus Analysis Works
- Nine slots per Genus: each Genus has nine potential passive stats.
- Rerolls: dislike a roll? Spend more crystals (and eventually Kinah) to analyze again.
- Insight level: each analysis grants Genus Insight XP (max level 10). Higher Insight improves odds of rarer, stronger rolls.
Stat rarities are Common, Rare, Epic, Unique, and Heroic. Higher rarity means a stronger value range for that stat.
The Lock System
When you roll a keeper, Lock the slot. Locked slots stay through future analyses.
Global Launch Improvements
- Guaranteed Soul Crystals: opening Hidden Boxes with keys now guarantees 1,000 Soul Crystals per box — a large boost to the reroll economy.
- Server-wide progression: Genus Insight and Pet Achievements are server-wide. Roll once on your main and every alt on that server benefits.
05Korea vs Global Genus Stat Pools
In Korea, most slots could roll almost any stat, which pushed builds toward the same offensive stacks. Global assigns each slot a specific pool, so genera identity matters more.
Cogni Genus Changes (Global)
- Added: Penetration, PvE Accuracy, and Power Shard Damage Bonus.
- More common: HP, Attack Bonus, and Damage Tolerance appear more often.
- Nerfed rates: Critical Hit, Boss Attack, and Crit Resist are roughly 60% less likely.
- Removed: Double Chance, Perfect Chance, and Weapon Damage Boost no longer roll on Cogni.
Special Genus Changes (Global)
In Korea, Special was the dedicated offensive Genus. In Global it is much more defensive and plays closer to Cogni, with flat defense, rate, and defensive percent slots.
- Offensive nerfs: Heroic Max Attack is about 67% less likely; Penetration is about 77% less likely.
- Double Chance: removed from nearly every slot. The one Global exception is Special Genus Slot 4 — the only place Double Chance (formerly Smite) can still roll.
06Early Game DPS Genus Priorities
Pools can still change after launch, so stay flexible. For an early Global DPS template on Standard and Special genera, start here:
| Slot | Priority |
|---|---|
| 1 & 5 | Max Attack or Front Attack |
| 2 & 8 | Front Defense |
| 3, 6 & 9 | Front Attack Critical Hit |
| 7 | Damage Tolerance (or Front Attack Damage Tolerance on Special) |
| 4 (Standard) | Accuracy Bonus or Critical Hit |
| 4 (Special) | Double Chance — highest priority; only slot where it rolls |
Bias slots toward your class and playstyle. As new gear and ranged DPS options arrive, these priorities will shift.
